Acne is extremely prevalent, with its peak incidence in early adolescence, continuing in some cases throughout adulthood. Up to 85% of adolescents may be affected. All races are affected equally, however the propensity for complications such as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring in patients with darker skin types is greater.
